Hamburger Camerata
»Der Kontrabass« / »The Double Bass«
The double bass has a long tradition as a solo instrument in classical music that goes back well into the 18th century. Composer and double-bass player Giovanni Bottesini, to name but one example, wrote a whole series of rewarding solo and chamber works for his instrument. The Rácz family has produced three generations of double-bass virtuosos. When he is not playing as a soloist, Ödön Rácz wields his bow as a member of the Vienna Philharmonic.
