Elbphilharmonie Talk with Jess Gillam

The young saxophonist talks about her life as a musician, her projects and why it's important to pause for a moment and take one's time over things.

At the age of 17, Jess Gillam became the first female sax player to win the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, and just two years later she was taking part in the prestigious Last Night of the Proms as the »undisputed highlight« (BBC) of the evening. In the meantime she has her own show on BBC Radio 3 and gives concerts all over the world. So it hardly comes as a surprise that she is one of our »Rising Stars« - a programme  where Europe's leading concert halls choose the continent's most exciting young artists every year. One could say that Jess Gillam is a musician in the fast lane. But it's still important to take your time over a project and to pause now and again, both in your private life and your career, as she explains in her »Elbphilharmonie Talk«. She also tells us what constitutes beautiful music for her, and how important authenticity is to her as a musician.
