Johann Sebastian Bach’s »Christmas Oratorio« is just as much a part of the festive period as mulled wine and Christmas trees. In the six-part work, the Baroque master captured the Christmas story in accessible and expressive musical images. Based on words from the Gospel of Luke, he composed timeless melodies, profound arias and joyful choruses with festive trumpet sounds and drum beats.
In the NDR Vokalensemble under Holger Speck and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, this performance of Bach’s moving Christmas music in the Elbphilharmonie features true Bach specialists. Soloists from the ranks of the NDR Vokalensemble are joined by the acclaimed tenor Julian Prégardien as the Evangelist.
