Since 2008, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the Körber Foundation have gathered the international community of music educators every two years to collectively explore the opportunities and challenges of music education work. »The Art of Music Education« now takes place for the sixth time. The symposium has previously dealt with the central topics of »Role«, »Young Audiences«, »Alliances« »Heritage« and »Cooperation with Schools«, during which numerous prominent speakers from music education and various disciplines shared their experiences.

»Discovering Cultural Relations – Music Institutions in Multi-Diverse Urban Societies«: is the theme of the 2018 conference. Metropolises are centres of globalisation: trade, transport, industry and science as well as migration have shaped and contributed to the prosperity of European cities.

To what extent can and should the form and the activities of a cultural venue reflect its role within the urban eco-system in the 21st century? How can we deploy opportunities of different cultures, different ways of participation and perception, the role of cultural heritage?

On 15 February, Arabic lutes are played alongside European string instruments, African song and Bavarian brass music: Ensemble Resonanz with Derya Yildirim, Unterbiberger Hofmusik and further musicians take the stage in the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall.
