Daniel Welbat got off to a roaring start on the international market with his band »Wellbad«, and the group has released a total of three albums in the meantime. But Welbat has also made a name for himself as a composer of film music. The portrait concert given as part of Elbphilharmonie+ illuminates all the Hamburg musician’s different facets.

The 28-year-old Hamburg singer-songwriter Daniel Welbat is currently causing a stir in the music scene: in his live performances, he brims with energy and passion, impressing critics and audiences alike with his excellent band »WellBad«. Daniel’s roots actually lie more in film than in music: as the son of a film producer and an actress, he came into contact with the world of movies at an early age, and even wrote film scripts of his own while still young.

Later on, he concentrated on music: he wrote his first songs at the age of 16 and played them in bars and clubs on Hamburg’s Reeperbahn. In the course of the production work for his debut album »Beautiful Disaster«, the band »Wellbad« was then formed, which is still in existence today. The band presents its latest album, »The Rotten«, as part of the »Made in Hamburg« series on 24 April in the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall.

The Elbphilharmonie’s supporting programme offers a variety of different angles on the music performed – either to complement the concert itself, or as an experience in its own right. As a rule, the Elbphilharmonie+ events are interdisciplinary in nature: exhibitions, talks to accompany a particular concert or events featuring flamenco dancing or scat singing. They take place in the Elbphilharmonie itself in some cases, as well as in museums, libraries and local culture centres.
