Philharmonic Chamber Music Recital

»The lotus plant buries its roots deep in the mud beneath the surface of the pond; the stem rises up through the water and breaks the surface, shooting up towards the sky; the bud opens up in the direction of the morning sun« – this is the Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa describing the lotus blossom that he had in mind while composing his string quartet. This work inspired by nature is followed by another rarity: Adolf Busch, violinist and composer from the Siegerland artist family Busch, wrote a quintet in the Late Romantic style in 1925 that adds the timbre of the saxophone to the classic string quartet. The chamber-music concert then leads with a momentum nothing short of symphonic into Schubert’s String Quartet No. 15, a work of colossal impact. Inspired by Beethoven, Schubert wrote a score that came close to an act of liberation, an unconditional examination of art and life, of major and minor, of hope and despair.
