»Here and not here at the same time«: with his trio and the brand-new album »Sleepwalkers«, one of the leading jazz pianists of his generation takes a closer look at the world we live in. Omer Klein has already released six albums, and now the 34-year-old can be heard live in the Elbphilharmonie.

»A large part of modern life takes place in a kind of alternative, virtual world. In a way, we all look as if we were here and not here at the same time«. This statement sums up the »Sleepwalkers« project perfectly: as Omer Klein himself explains, the trio focuses on »three central points« on its new album, namely the author’s view of society, the mystical side of things, and life as a musician on tour. The album contains thirteen original compositions that are constantly interwoven both thematically and musically, and supply impressive proof of the relevance and beauty of the piano trio in today’s jazz landscape.

Omer Klein was born in Israel in 1982; he started to study jazz as a teenager, and began his concert career at the age of 16. When he was 23, he moved to Boston to study at the New England Conservatory, and it wasn’t long before he moved again – to New York, where he became a pupil of Fred Hersch and an important feature of the city’s jazz scene. Omer Klein now lives in Düsseldorf and tours worldwide both as a soloist and as part of a trio.
