Music of the spheres

Plato believed that the movement of the planets generated sounds. According to his theory, these spherical sounds are an original form of music. Johannes Kepler discovered harmonic connections between the movement of the planets and the scales used in western music. A few centuries later, Gustav Holst set the characteristics attributed to the planets to music in his composition »The Planets«. This colourful and fascinating work is now included in the repertoires of most orchestras and ensembles for obvious reasons. The Morgenstern Trio is one that can’t resist the fascination of this music and they used the break imposed by the coronavirus restrictions to have the individual movements arranged for a piano trio line-up.
