A family concert that is also a journey through time at the Martha Argerich Festival: Bach’s Partitas, presented with tongue firmly in cheek as having been »prepared for the soul’s delight of music lovers«, were already incredibly popular during the composer’s lifetime. The dance suite of the Partita in C minor – at times melancholic, at times passionate – serves up a feast of virtuosity. That is followed by a leap of almost 300 years, to a fable that encourages reflection: Stravinsky’s »L’Histoire du Soldat« of 1918 tells the story of a soldier who makes a pact with the devil. In return for a book that promises untold wealth, the soldier trades his violin (and thereby his soul) – all underpinned by sensational music!
