The penultimate concert in the Symphoniker Hamburg’s one-week chamber music festival is dedicated entirely to the Romantic era. »Wie Melodien zieht es mir leise durch den Sinn« (Like gentle melodies in my mind) – Brahms wove this song into his sunny and »caressing« Violin Sonata. His major song cycle »Liebeslieder-Walzer«, on the other hand, is about grand feelings »between misery and happiness«. Martha Argerich has invited two very special friends to join her for Robert Schumann’s works: she loses herself in the elegiac fantasies of Schumann’s Op. 73 in the company of Mischa Maisky, while she is joined by Thomas Hampson to plumb all the depths of love in the song cycle »Dichterliebe«.
