»Pierrot in an argument with the moon« – this is the original subtitle of Debussy’s impressive Cello Sonata, which Martha Argerich performs tonight together with Mischa Maisky. Afterwards, we take a stroll through Saint-Saëns’s famous children’s zoo, a charming showpiece of musical humour, complete with roaring lions, cackling hens and dancing turtles. Martha Argerich’s daughter narrates the story of the colourful animal world. The concert, and this one-week chamber music festival with the Symphoniker Hamburg, comes to an end with Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, a delightful piece of music full of lush ideas that closes with a majestic dance finale.
