»She doesn’t adhere to any tradition – and that makes her just the right choice for Hamburg« – thus German weekly paper DIE ZEIT in early 2016, writing about Patricia Kopatchinskaja’s residence concerts in the Laeiszhalle and at Kampnagel. And the reviewer was proved right: the unconventional violinist, who loves Beethoven and Mozart, but is particularly fond of combining these old masters with folk music from her native Moldavia or with unusual contemporary sounds, was a real hit with Hamburg audiences. Kopatchinskaja has an authentic and approachable stage presence, brings music to life and lets the audience participate directly. Thus it’s a special source of pleasure that she’ll be making a guest appearance at the Elbphilharmonie in summer 2017, when the Konzerthausorchester Berlin accompanies her in Sibelius’s colourful violin concerto.
