The essence of music

John Scofield has been innovating with the modern jazz guitar for 40 years. A stylistic chameleon between bebop, blues and rock who – alongside Bill Frisell and Pat Metheny – counts among the most influential jazz guitarists since Wes Montgomery. After his acclaimed concert as part of the Elbphilharmonie’s 5th anniversary celebrations in January 2022, John Scofield is now back in the Grand Hall.

He has a diverse band at his side for his latest project »Yankee Go Home«, with Jon Cowherd on the piano, Vicente Archer on bass and Josh Dion on drums. Here, Scofield is returning to the music that has shaped him since his teens. He rediscovers Buddy Holly and Neil Young, as well as The Grateful Dead, Stevie Wonder and Leonard Bernstein – all musically marinated in his decades of experience in jazz. »We are exploring rock, funk, country, jazz and free music, and we’re having a fantastic time«, raves Scofield.
