Helge Schneider

»Great talent and utter nonsense: these opposites are the stuff that Helge Schneider, born on 30 August 1955 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, works with.« (laut.de) The song »Katzeklo« (Cat Toilet) made the entertainer, cabaret artist and jazz musician famous in the 1990s. He also made an impact with films like »Texas – Doc Snyder hält die Welt in Atem« and the movies about Superintendent 00 Schneider, where he played the leading parts himself.  In 2012 Helge Schneider enjoyed a special honour: the cabaret artist Gerhard Polt and the Biermösl Blosn presented him with the Großer Karl Valentin Prize. He is the first non-Bavarian to receive this award. Schneider himself, incidentally, prefers to avoid the term »cabaret artist«; since 1989 he has referred to himself as a »singing cream cake«.
