Haydn: The Seasons
Hamburger Bachchor St. Petri / Harvestehuder Kammerchor / Elbipolis Barockorchester / Thomas Dahl
Joseph Haydn’s »The Seasons« is the last oratorio he wrote. Together with his »Creation«, it is one of the key works in the repertoire for choir and orchestra. The four parts depict spring, summer, autumn and winter, both the seasons themselves and symbolically the course of Man’s life. Haydn gives us the beauty of nature, the fright of a thunderstorm, the joys of hunting and the grape harvest alongside sacred choruses and arias showing that rural life in the 18th century was still clearly subject to divine order. »The Seasons« is performed by three internationally renowned soloists, two choirs and a full orchestra playing original instruments.
