Your mind doesn’t immediately jump to the Danish city of Esbjerg, when thinking about the world’s music metropolises. And yet, the city in southern Denmark has long been considered a musical powerhouse. The Esbjerg Ensemble, the first professional chamber ensemble in Denmark, was founded in 1967. The Esbjerg Ensemble plays the full spectrum of classical music, but it is widely known for its style- savvy interpretation of contemporary works, for example, by Per Nørgård and Bent Sørensen. In this concert, the musicians combine their skills for a programme rich in contrasts. Two works by Sørensen can be heard: the world premiere of a new work to kick-off the concert, followed by Sørensen’s »Pantomime«. At the heart of the concert, the musicians return to their chamber music roots with two works by Mozart.
