In the resplendent timbres of historical instruments, the Elbipolis Barockorchester of Hamburg tells the Christmas story as set to music by Arcangelo Corelli in the 18th century. Corelli’s concerto grosso, which has become known as the »Christmas Concerto«, is the centrepiece of this concert of virtuoso Baroque music in the Italian style. The musicians of the Elbipolis Barockorchester are experts in local music history. A few years ago, they rediscovered the works of the forgotten Hamburg composer Johann Christian Schieferdecker, pupil, son-in-law and successor of Dieterich Buxtehude. The orchestra now makes its debut at the Elbphilharmonie with a programme of Advent music.
