Eden Grey’s father is a piano maker, and the Miami house she grew up in was full of the instruments. The delicate mechanism, the little hammers and felt pads fascinated her from the outset. After a few years of piano lessons, she quickly turned her attention to more futuristic sounds, producing as a teenager electronic music.

Her studies of music technology pulled her more and more into the world of modular synthesizers and the history of the electric avant-garde. For her master’s degree, she built her own first synthesizer and extended her knowledge by a research period with 4MS, a manufacture of synthesizers in Portland.

What Eden Grey loves about live performance with electronic instruments is the sense of the unexpected and the direct contact with the audience. Music, she says, is a gift from the heavens that should reach every individual. In the meantime, Eden Grey is studying composition at Royal Holloway, University of London, and is conquering Europe’s analogue synthesis scene.
