Numerous international commitments notwithstanding, Valery Gergiev has always remained loyal to »his« Mariinski Theatre in St Petersburg. He has been artistic director for more than 30 years, continuing the great tradition of the glamorous theatre with top standards in music and stage design. Now the maestro and his musicians make a three-day guest appearance in the Elbphilharmonie. and of course the programme features what the Mariinski has been famous for since it opened in 1860: ballet music.
