»He has simply everything«, says Christoph Eschenbach about Pablo Ferrández, »a marvellous technique, profound musicality and overwhelming charisma!« The Spanish cellist and holder of a scholarship from the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation is one of today’s most sought-after artists on his instrument. He last appeared in Hamburg at the 2020 »Rising Stars« festival – now he returns to the Elbphilharmonie with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and Juanjo Mena.

The young musician has chosen to play one of the most popular works in the cello repertoire: the First Cello Concerto by Camille Saint-Saëns. Before the virtuoso solo concerto, Juanjo Mena and the orchestra perform a gem of Catalonian culture in the shape of dances from Robert Gerhard’s »Don Quixote«. The concert comes to a close with Berlioz’s famous »Symphonie fantastique« – a pathbreaking masterpiece from the French Romantic composer’s early period.
