New York’s Juilliard School is one of the most venerable musical institutions in the world – as well as being home to the Juilliard String Quartet, which can already look back on a 75-year tradition. For the first time, the quartet in its current line-up can now be heard at the Elbphilharmonie and, fittingly, they are playing Dvořák’s »American« String Quartet. The Novus String Quartet is travelling from Korea to perform works by the string quartet heroes Mozart, Mendelssohn and Shostakovich. Meta4, Finland’s finest string quartet, is headed for Hamburg too. And although the Belcea Quartet no longer needs any introduction here at the Elbphilharmonie, a real treat awaits as the four audience favourites perform a new work by the British composer Julian Anderson, alongside Beethoven.
