Claude Debussy’s only opera, »Pelléas et Mélisande«, is a dreamlike masterpiece full of nuanced moods. This lyrical drama starring opera sensation Patricia Petibon in the female title role opens the Elbphilharmonie Subscription 2, which also features several of the 20th century’s most seminal violin concertos. Besides Janine Jansen and Lisa Batiashvili, two of the finest violinists of our time, we also welcome back such eminent orchestras as the Berlin Philharmonic, which is finally returning to the Elbphilharmonie after three years. The London Symphony Orchestra also takes to the stage under its new principal conductor and Rattle successor Sir Antonio Pappano, before Sir András Schiff extends an invitation to the Laeiszhalle for the closing concert.
