Ensemble Resonanz: Christmas Oratorio

The ensemble in residence of the Elbphilharmonie performs an urban chamber music version of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.

There are many ways to celebrate Christmas. Ensemble Resonanz presents Bach's Christmas Oratorio as Hausmusik friends. With a small cast and no large choir, the ensemble has arranged thirty arias, recitatives, choruses and chorales from Bach's masterpiece in its very own version. The score remains untouched, electric guitar and Hammond organ sound in continuo, only one trumpet and the whole ensemble joins in on the chorales. This is what Hausmusik sounds like in the resonanzraum St.Pauli.

Concert stream available from 12 December 2021.
