As a young pianist growing up in Tyrol, Larcher absorbed the music of Mozart, Bach and Schubert; later on, he was fascinated by freethinkers of jazz like Ornette Coleman and Gil Evans. In his own music, extremes are always close together: frantic runs, meditative chords and experimental playing techniques are designed to send the listener »into a different orbit«. In his »Elbphilharmonie Talk«, the Austrian composer speaks about his career and his first attempts at composing. He also explains why he sees himself as a »motherboard«, what his music has to do with nature, and what the inspiration was for his work »The Living Mountain«.
This instalment of »Elbphilharmonie Talk« was recorded live before a concert audience on 12 December 2022.
