Elbphilharmonie Sessions: Rosaceae

A multi-media project by the artist Rosaceae: impressive electro echoes down the concert hall’s endless corridors.

»My most important instrument is perception,« explains the multi-disciplinary artist Leyla Yenirce, who – under the name Rosaceae – shapes sounds, visual elements and documentations of feminist resistance into diverse collages.

Rosaceae formulates her strong political messages in audiovisual works in which she combines images, speech samples and field recordings with musical elements like noise, ambient and techno. The young artist regularly presents her extraordinary projects in clubs and on experimental concert stages. In the »Elbphilharmonie Session«, her impressive sounds ring out from the Recital Hall, filling the entire venue – a special video that also foregrounds Rosaceae’s visual signature.

»I have the feeling that I’m living in a polyamorous relationship with the various art forms.«

Leyla Yenirce

About the project

In the »Elbphilharmonie Session«, Rosaceae performs the spine-tinglingly beautiful song »Çiya« from her album »Efia« (2020). From the control room, a voice declares: »There is no time here, not anymore« – and the concert begins. Or does it? The cables are still loose, the lights are only just being set up, but the artist is already playing. As if by magic, she produces her sounds, which spread out gradually. They haunt the corridors and the foyer. Above the roofs of the city, another voice rings out. It speaks of her grandmother from Ghana, who called to her in a dream. Now, the woman’s delicate calls echo down the concert hall’s endless corridors, fill the empty dressing rooms and down into the parking garage. Architecture, sound and even the video itself become her media.
