»Hildegard Lernt Fliegen« (Hildegard Learns to Fly) is not a children’s book for budding pilots but an avant-garde jazz band from Switzerland. However, the six musicians have indeed turned out to be real high flyers. That is down in no small part to the charismatic frontman Andreas Schaerer, a consummate vocal acrobat and winner of the Echo Jazz Award in 2015. Terms such as scat singing and beatboxing pale before his vocal skills, which are on a par with the art of his famous teacher Bobby McFerrin.
