Lieder Recital: Georg Nigl

Georg Nigl was named Singer of the Year by »Opernwelt« magazine in 2015 – a prestigious award for an extraordinary singer. He had already achieved success at an early age, performing on the world’s greatest stages as a soprano soloist with the Vienna Boys’ Choir.
The breadth of his repertoire today is astonishing and extends from baroque pieces to classical works of the nineteenth century. It also stretches to include contemporary music and close collaborations with the great composers of today.
When he comes to Hamburg in December with pianist Alexander Melnikov, he will be performing Wolfgang Rihm’s »Sieben Neue Lieder / Seven New Lieder«. In addition, he casts a look back at the Romantics – lieder by Schubert, four lieder by Alban Berg and Brahms’ »Vier ernsten Gesänge / Four Serious Songs«, written in anticipation of the impending death of the composer’s close friend Clara Schumann.
