Great feelings call for great voices. And who could be better suited to the task than soprano Diana Damrau and tenor Jonas Kaufmann? This is not the first time they have appeared on stage together, and not for the first time is love the focus of the programme. After Hugo Wolf’s »Italienisches Liederbuch«, the two singers devote their attention to love songs by Schumann and Johannes Brahms. But anyone expecting kitsch and sentimental confessions is barking up the wrong tree. Apart from grand emotions, love’s appeal oft lies in quiet details – a gentle touch, soft sounds, and furtive glances. A type of emotion that both Damrau and Kaufmann master with virtuoso ease, congenially accompanied on the piano by Helmut Deutsch.
