Opening of Hamburg »Summer Organ« Festival in Hamburg’s Major Churches
The »Summer Organ« festival has a permanent place in the Hanseatic city’s music scene. Every year, from June to early September, this »Queen of All Instruments« demonstrates its beauty and diversity in numerous concerts in the major Hamburg churches. The »new addition to family« that resides in the Elbphilharmonie has been given the honour of opening this year’s festival.
In the »Long Night of Organ«, organists from the major Hamburg churches and the University of Music come together to present the new concert hall organ, constructed by the long-established company Klais in Bonn, in all its facets and thus welcome it into the Hamburg family of organs.
The approximately six-hour programme offers an exciting cross-section of the entire repertoire of the instrument: from Bach’s famous D minor Toccata and works of tonally sensual French composer Olivier Messiaen to the rarely heard organ tones of Astor Piazzolla – a combination of tango and classical music.
