Krzysztof Urbański has been the principal guest conductor of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra for five years now. This time, the »rostrum star with the wild haircut and clear visions« (NZZ) and his orchestra present a rousing programme of Russian music: the concert opens with Tchaikovsky’s popular »Rococo Variations« inspired by Mozart, in which star cellist Alisa Weilerstein shines. Prokofiev’s massive-sounding Fifth Symphony, on the other hand, is music that overwhelms: written amidst the chaos of war in 1944, reverie, wit and shocking outbursts collide here. This is a score marked by both the deepest grief and the will to live.

After the phenomenal success of the last couple of years, the concert series for the curious continues in 2020: one hour of classical music in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall just to try it out. No dress regulations, no rules of etiquette, just a relaxed atmosphere and affordable prices! The programme this time is not limited to classical music. Joining the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra is the NDR Radiophilharmonie with its charismatic conductor Andrew Manze. Mounting the rostrum with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra are Krzysztof Urbański and Alan Gilbert.
