The Jewish Chamber Orchestra Hamburg developed from the idea of reviving the Jüdische Kammerorchester Hamburg, which was founded in 1934 and disbanded just two years later. Today, in its concert programme »Musikalische Stolpersteine«, the ensemble presents rarely performed works by Jewish composers murdered under the Nazi regime such as the Austrian Viktor Ullmann, who was killed in Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1944. The concert at the Laeiszhalle closes a circle – because the Jüdische Kammerorchester Hamburg also performed here more than 80 years ago.
