A Hamburg institution turns 70, and celebrates the occasion with a festival concert at the Elbphilharmonie – played by Hamburg residents for Hamburg residents! Hamburg native and famous pianist Sebastian Knauer summons up sounds from the other side of the Atlantic with Gershwin’s »Rhapsody in Blue«, a work that brilliantly combines the jazz idiom with classical orchestral tradition. He is accompanied by another Hamburg institution: the Symphoniker Hamburg, who have played a significant role in the concert programmes of the Laeiszhalle, at their Rathaus concerts and with their music educational programme for over 60 years now. Last but not least, internationally famed soprano Simone Kermes serenades us with finest bel canto from the pen of Gaetano Donizetti, and with vibrant concert jazz in the songs of Leonard Bernstein.
